Chapter Two
Trent dropped Carlos off at his apartment then headed for home. He was surprised to find Tommy there so late
"What are you doing here?" Trent asked him
"The new kid Josh came by with his mom to pick up his GEI," Tommy said
"Did I know about this?" Trent asked
"No", Tommy assured him." I knew you would be gone all day."
"Yeah," Trent said. "I had an emergency come up."
"Another case?" Tommy asked
"No. I was at the Hope center for Alex’s fall festival," Trent explained
"Oh, I remember you telling me about that", Tommy said
"Yeah, anyway, this woman was on the phone with Jennifer Davis when her boyfriend came in and threatened to kill her," Trent said
"Is the woman all right?" Tommy asked
"Yes. Walker, Trivette, Carlos and I went there," Trent said. "The guy is locked up now and she is in the hospital.
"I’ll bet you gave that guy a good beating," Tommy said
"Tommy Malloy!" Trent scolded
"Well, it sounds like he deserved it", Tommy said
"There is more to it than that," Trent said. "Her safety for starters. So she is going to be staying here with me."
"What?" Tommy said, surprised
"I said
"I heard what you said Trent," Tommy said. "I just can’t believe it."
"There hasn’t been anywhere she can go that he hasn’t found her," Trent said
"No family?"
"No. Just Jennifer and he know where she lives."
"So what’s her name?" Tommy asked picking up his duffel bag
"Christina Jade."
Tommy went pale
"Tommy, are you all right?" Trent asked
"You are kidding me right?" Tommy asked
"About what?" Trent asked completely lost
"Come-on, Trent!" Tommy said. "Christina Jade?"
"Would you mind explaining yourself?" Trent said
"What does she look like?" Tommy asked
"Excuse me?"
"What does she look like?" Tommy repeated frustrating Trent
"Well, she is beautiful", Trent said with a picture of Christina in his mind. "Her skin is flawless, like porcelain. She has thick, long black hair. It is full of curls. And her eyes are this incredible color."
"And how is her voice?" Tommy asked
"Her... Is this going anywhere?" Trent asked
"Trent you saved Jade’s life," Tommy said
"No, Christina Jade", Trent said. "Have you been listening?"
"Where have you been Trent? Jade was only the most gorgeous, female artist on the charts," Tommy said walking over to the stereo Trent kept in the back of the dojo
"What are you doing?" Trent asked
"I have had this here all along and you never noticed," Tommy said handing him Christina’s, or rather Jades CD
Trent fought to stay on his feet when he saw Christina on the cover. She was straddling a white chair wearing a pair of faded jeans with a hole in the knee and a white summer top
"My god!" Trent gasped. "She looks....
"Sexy," Tommy said
"That is one word I would use," Trent said
"Jade is her stage name, or was," Tommy said
"She didn’t tell me," Trent said not able to take his eyes of the CD
Tommy put the CD on and Christina’s sweet voice touched his ears. Her voice was beautiful. She sounded like an angel from heaven
"Tommy, you said she "was" famous," Trent said
"Well, she stopped recording over a year and a half ago," Tommy said
"It was probably because of Brody," Trent said angrily
"That the guy who hurt her?" Tommy asked
Trent only nodded
"Well, you keep this", Tommy said. "I’m heading home."
"Thanks Tommy," Trent said
Trent sat down and listened to her sing. She possessed an incredible voice. He was in love with her that much he knew. Every time he looked at her, he lost all sense of reason." Am I confusing love with compassion?" he asked himself. "No" He told himself. What he felt was pure, unconditional love. And he knew he would have to tell her how he felt but he had to earn her trust. He had to let her heal from the hell that man had put her through
Trent listened to the CD one more time before going up to the loft for the night
The phone ringing jerked Trent awake. He looked at the clock and groaned
"Malloy"
"Trent, its Kim. Did I wake you?"
"It’s seven in the morning Kimberly. What do you think?"
"Sorry," she said. "Carlos filled me in on last night and I just wanted to see how you were doing."
"Carlos is at the office?" he asked
"Yeah. He wanted to get started on the Stevens case."
"Oh, well, tell him I probably won’t make it in today", Trent said
"He knows," she said. "You are such a sweetheart for saving that woman."
"And did he mention that she would be staying here?" Trent asked
"Yes. I think I can help," Kim said "She might like a woman to talk to."
"That’s a good idea. Thanks Kim
"Not a problem," Kim said
"There’s something else Kim," Trent said. "Have you ever heard of Jade?"
"Are you joking? She asked, "She is only like the best female artist around. Why?"
"Ask Carlos what Christina looks like," Trent said
"What?" Kim said
"Just ask him."
Kim turns to Carlos
"Carlos, what’s Christina look like?" Kim asked
"She’s Jen’s best friend," Carlos said
"Carlos, I have never met your Jen, so how can that tell me what Christina looks like?"
Carlos shrugged his shoulders. "She has long black hair, and green eyes."
Kim was speechless
"Are you telling me that Jade and Christina are one in the same?" she asked
"Yes. Tommy told me last night," Trent said. "I couldn’t believe it."
"But she hasn’t put out any music in a while", Kim said
"Because of Brody," Trent said
Kim assumed that was the guy that was abusing her
"I just don’t want anyone to bring up her music," Trent said.
"I won’t Trent," She said. "I promise."
"Thanks," Trent said before hanging up
"Carlos, Trent just told me that Christina was a singer," Kim said
"Yeah, Jen mentioned that," Carlos said
"You never mentioned it to Trent," Kim said
"He never asked," Carlos said
Kim was getting frustrated with Carlos
"So do you think Trent and Christina"?
"Yes Kim," Carlos said, knowing what she was going to ask
"Oh, that’s great", she said
"He just met her," Carlos said
"I know but it won’t hurt to do a little matchmaking", she said
"Kim, give the girl some time to recover from all of this", Carlos said
"I will," she said innocently
Carlos gave her one of his looks
"What?" she said. "Carlos, she is Jen’s best friend-right?"
"Yes, but..."
"And you are Trent’s best friend", Kim stated
"Yes I am," Carlos said
"Then its perfect," Kim said going for the door
"What’s perfect?" Carlos asked confused. "Where are you going?"
"To Trent’s", Kim said
"Kimberly!"
"Bye Carlos," Kim yelled. "Don’t work too hard."
And she was out the door. Carlos knew she was up to no good. He wanted Trent to be happy and if Christina was going to make him happy he was all for it. Jen was a great girl and he knew he loved her
At St. Matthews
"Good morning, Christina".
She looked up to see the doctor coming in
"Morning", she said smiling
"How are we feeling?" he asked
"Fine," she said. "Can I leave today?"
"I think so," he said. "As long as you promise to rest".
"I will," she said
"Is someone picking you up?"
"Yes," she said. "Mr. Malloy, the PI from last night".
"Call him then", he said. "I’ll get your discharge papers ready
"Thank you"
After he left Christina picked up the card Trent had given her. She must have looked at it for a good twenty minutes before dialing
Trent was just stepping out of the shower when the telephone rang
"Trent Malloy"
"Hi," Christina," she said quietly
The sound of her sweet voice brightened his morning
"How are you feeling?" he asked
"That’s why I am calling," she smiled at Jennifer as she came in "The doctor says I can leave anytime."
"Great," he said getting excited about seeing her again. "When?"
"Well, I am not fond of hospitals", she said
"I’ll be right there," he said
"All right," she said. "Bye
He quickly dressed and headed out the door
"Was that Trent? Jennifer asked
"How did you know?" Christina asked
"Because your face is lit up," she said
"Is it that obvious?" Christina asked
"Yes," Jennifer said. I know the signs; I am in love myself-remember?"
"Yes, you told me about Carlos, but I had no idea he was a friend of Trent’s, until last night. He is a great guy Jen."
"Yes, I love him a great deal"; Jen said thinking about her relationship with Carlos. "And he and Trent are a lot alike. I am happy you have feelings for Trent."
"Feelings? No, Jen. I am in love with him. Completely head over heels in love with him. I never thought I would feel that way about anyone after everything Keith has done to me", Christina said, as she looked at Jennifer
"I’m so happy for you," Jennifer said
Christina suddenly looked sad
"What is it?" Jen asked looking concerned about her best friend
"It’s just that after all I went through with Keith, suddenly, I don’t know if I’m good enough for Trent," Christina said
"Oh Chris, you are a wonderful person and Trent will be so lucky to have you in his life," Jennifer said as she hugged her friend
"Thank you Jen," she said. "You always know just what to say."
"You better get dressed," Jennifer said sitting a bag down in front of her
"I’ll bet someone is ready to get out of here?" The nurse said coming in the room and smiling at Christina
"Yes. I am."
"Well, let me get this IV out then you are free to go," she said
She gently pulled the IV out of Christina’s arm
"Sorry, Hon, this part is never easy", she said. "Be sure to keep this elevated for a few minutes."
The nurse left the room and Christina went in the bathroom to change in to the clothes Jennifer had brought her
Trent came in a few minutes later as she was stepping out of the bathroom
"Hi"
"Hi you," he said taking in a breath when he saw her. "You look beautiful Christina."
She blushed and turned her head
Trent knew the only way to convince her that she was beautiful was to pull her in to his arms. She did not pull away. It felt too good. His touch was strong yet gentile
Jennifer smiled
"Well, I’ll be going now that you are in good hands", Jennifer said
Christina reluctantly pulled away from Trent and went over to her friend
"I’ll call you as soon as I am settled," Christina said
She hugs her friend one last time before she leaves them alone
"Do you have everything?" He asked
Christina looked down at the bag Jennifer had given her
"Yes. Jen brought me these to put on and the nurse gave me what I came here in"
She was rambling. He looked so handsome she could not think straight
"Are you ready then?" He asked
"Yes," she said smiling
He placed her hand in his and together they walked out
Trent and Christina were on their way to Keith’s house to get her things. The closer they go the more nervous she became
"Trent, I don’t think I can go back in there," she said when he pulled up in front
"Yes, you can", he said. "I’ll be right there with you."
He went around and opened the door for her
She took in a breath and slowly opened the door, but she could not go in
"Come on- let’s get your things together", he said. "You’ll feel much better when you are gone from here completely",
Christina nodded her head but did not say a word. She looked up at Trent and smiled as tears started to fall
"I’m right here with you," he said
She began to gather her clothes and personal things. Trent could see all of the awards on the wall from her singing
"I see that my little brother was right", he said removing one of them
"About what?" she asked
"Your music," Trent said. " Seems he’s a fan."
"It was a long time ago," she said
Trent did not say anymore on it. He could tell that it upset her too much
"Well, I have everything I need", she said.
Trent picked up the boxes she had packed and took them out to the vette
Christina took one last look around, stood up straight, tall, and walked out
"Thank you so much for your support Trent," she said
"Your very welcome," he said
When Christina looked At Trent their eyes met and that same spark was ignited between them
"Christina"
"Don’t say anything, please", she said. "Let’s just get to know one another."
"All right", he said and opened the door for her and soon they were heading for the dojo
"I need to ask you something," Trent said
"Yes"
"Kim, my office manager, offered to help you unpack."
"She doesn’t even know me," Christina said
"I know but she would like to. And she thought you would be more comfortable with a woman."
"I think I’d like that," she said
He pulled in front of a building that looked old, like a warehouse. It said ‘Thunder Karate’ above the door. His school. His home. Her home, for now
"It looks like we have company," Trent said
She followed his gaze to a young woman standing at he door and a boy that looked to be about 16
"Kim, what are you doing here?" Trent asked as he came around to open the door for Christina
"I told you I wanted to help," Kim said smiling at Christina
"Yes. I know you did, but"
"Hi, I’m Kim Sutter"; she said extending her hand in friendship
"Oh, yes. Trent told me about you," Christina said. "It is nice to meet you. And who is this?" She asked smiling at Tommy
"This is my brother Tommy," Trent said
"Hello Tommy"
He was rendered speechless
"Tommy!" Trent nudged his arm
"Huh? Oh.Hi!" Tommy stammered
Trent just shook his head laughing
"Come on inside, Christina", Kim said. "I’ll help you get things unpacked."
Christina looked at Trent as Kim continued to chatter away at her
"I’ll be right in," Trent told her
She took a couple of boxes from Trent and went in after Kim
"Tommy, what are you doing here?" Trent asked
No answer. He was to busy staring at Christina as she was going in
"Tommy!"
"What? Sorry Trent, I just. I mean she is so beautiful."
"Yes"
"Gorgeous"
"I noticed that myself," Trent said
"I never thought I’d meet her and."
"Calm down", Trent told him
"Can I help with anything?" He asked
"Kim and I will help her," he said
"I know, but
"But nothing, " Trent said. " She needs her rest, Now go on home."
"All right", Tommy said and went to his Jeep
Trent went in to check his messages then he started carrying Christina’s things up to the loft. He found Christina kneeling on the floor going through the box she had carried up. She was crying, something in the box was upsetting her
"Christina what is it?" Kim asked as she sat down beside her
"These things. I don’t know why I packed them"; she put a hand over her mouth willing herself not to cry anymore
"I’m sorry," she said
"It’s all right," Kim said putting her arm around her for support then she looked at Trent knowing he was feeling the same frustration over Christina’s pain
"Is this him?" Kim asked holding up a picture
Christina took it from her
"He was charming then," she said softly. "When we met it was like magic. I loved him so much and then, he changed. The littlest things put him in a rage. He was jealous of everything I did. And my work. He did not like it."
"So you stopped?" Kim asked her
"Yes. He gave me little choice. I tried to leave, but when he nearly killed me"
"Christina?"
Her shimmering eyes met his, breaking clear through to his soul
"You are safe now," he told her. "Remember that."
He knelt down beside her and took the picture from her
"This is just a picture, nothing more," he said tossing it back in the box
"I know," she said shakily
Trent reached his hand out and caressed her cheek, wiping away the tears. She did not pull away. She just leaned in to it
"I’ll go make some tea," Kim said
They did not hear her. They were to lost in one another
"Will you hold me?" Christina asked Trent
He slowly drew in to the strength of his arms
"I’m sorry",
"There’s nothing to be sorry for," he said. "I told you that I would be here for you."
She looked up at him
"I am scared," she cried
"I know. And you have every right to be", Trent said. "But I swear to you here and now that I will protect you. He will never come near you again."
"Do you think they will let him out?" She asked shakily
"Not if you press charges," he said then regretted it
She pulled away from him
"I do not think I can Trent," she cried. "I mean I knew I would have to, but seeing all of these things made me realize how things are."
"He is the past Christina," Trent said coming up and putting his hand under her chin so she would look at him. "Look toward the future -with me".
"With you?" She asked
"Yes, starting tonight", he said. "Have dinner with me."
"Yes I’d like that-a lot," Christina said
"Great! How’s six sound?’ he asked
"Good," she said
They were paying so much attention to each other that they did not hear Kim come back in. "Those two are definitely in love" Kim thought to herself. "They won’t be needing my help."
"Tea anyone?" Kim asked hating to interrupt them
"Thank you," Christina said taking the cup from her
"Trent?" Kim held a cup up to him
"Just sit it over there," Trent told Kim. "I’m going to put these in the attic." He picked up the two boxes Christina had been sorting through
"Trent, that isn’t necessary," Christina told him
"Yes it is," he said. "If they are going to upset you".
"Thank you",
"Let me give you a hand", Kim said wanting to talk with Trent alone for a minute
She followed him out and up the small set of stairs to the attic
"She is such a sweet person Trent," Kim said
"Yes she is," he said setting the boxes down
"You are not fooling anyone you know," Kim said
"Excuse me?" He said
"I know you Trent Malloy"
"Kim
"Don’t deny that you have fallen in love with her," she said
"I won’t"
"And don’t. What did you say?"
"I love her Kim," he said
"Trent that’s great," Kim said
"Nothing can come out of it Kim," he said
"She feels the same, I can tell."
"She’s going through hell right now," Trent said
"No. She has been to hell, you are bringing her back", Kim said
"Yes, but"
"Just tell her Trent," Kim said
"Tell me what?"
They turn to see her in the doorway
"Nothing," Trent said. "What’s this?"
She was holding on to another box
"Just more stuff I thought you could keep up here," she said handing him the box
"Why don’t we have some more tea while he gets that all sorted," Kim said
"All right", she said and followed Kim back down
"I am sorry for interrupting," she said to Kim
"It’s all-right," Kim said "We were just
"Talking about me? Christina asked
"Christina"
"Trent was probably telling you how upset he is over being stuck babysitting me."
"No. He wants to help."
"Why?’
"Did you ask him that? Kim said
Christina just lowered her head. Kim prayed that Trent would tell her how he felt before he lost her
"Well, I’m going to go", Kim said. "Tell Trent to call me".
"I will," Christina said. Thanks for your help Kim
After Kim left, Christina began looking around. Some photographs caught her eye. Trent with his friend Carlos, laughing. They were obvious close. Trent with his brother Tommy and a little boy and girl. A definite family resemblance. Trent in uniform looking handsome and an older couple
"Those are my parents." Trent was right behind her but she did not jump. Somehow, she was comfortable with Trent. Even though she had only know him for a short while it seemed like forever
"They are nice pictures," she said
"Thank you"
"Your welcome," she said. "Kim said she would
She suddenly swayed and Trent put an arm around her
"Are you all right?" He asked
"Yes, just a bit dizzy"
"Maybe we should stay here tonight," he said
"No, I want to go with you", she said. "I just need to lie down for a while."
"All right," he said. "If you are sure?"
She nodded to lost in his embrace to think
"Well, I’ll go down and get some things done", he said. "Just holler if you need me."
"Where is it that we are going?" She asked
"CD’s", Trent said
She looked at him strangely
"He is a friend of mine," Trent explained. "He is a retired Texas Ranger."" So CD’s is a restraunt?" She asked
"More like bar and grill," he said
"I can’t wait," she said
At A quarter to six, Trent was ready and waiting
While Christina was sleeping he had run to the florist around the corner and bought her a dozen roses. They were now trembling in his hands.
He turned when he heard the bathroom door open and was rendered speechless.
She was so beautiful dressed in a white dress with short sleeves and a long flowing skirt. With a thin sweater over it. She had her hair down, with clips going through it and it flowed down her back in a wave of massive curls
Christina in turned looked him over. He was wearing a black jacket over a medium blue shirt that opened at the collar and a pair of black denim pants
"He looks gorgeous," Christina thought to herself
"Christina, you look beautiful," he said
"Thank you sir," she said. "You are looking very handsome."
"Thank you, ma’am"
Then she noticed the flowers
"Are those for me?" She asked
"Yes. He said handing them to her
There were at least two dozen roses wrapped in the bouquet. Some white some red
"I wasn’t sure what your favorite was," he said shyly
"I like them both", she said, as she smelled them. "Thank you Trent, they are beautiful."
"They pale in comparison to you," he said
Christina felt as if she was going to cry. Never in her life has anyone made her feel this way. It was as if she were dreaming
"Are you ready?" He asked
"Yes," she said
He offered his arm, escorted her out to his corvette, and opened the door for her and they headed for CDs for dinner
CD Parker lifted the pot of coffee he has just made and filled Walker and Trivette’s cups to the top before going back to a long speech
"Now what was I saying?" He asked
"Uh...I seem to have forgotten," Trivette said rolling his eyes
"CD you were going on about the case you had down in Mexico," Walker said, getting a dirty look from Trivette
"Oh! Right!" CD said remembering. "That hombre was a tough one to smoke out. He had us pinned up in this got forsaking town for days.Over a week I think," he said rubbing his chin. You just got to be persistant Cordell and you can crack this thing."
"CD persistance isn’t going to help in our case," Walker said. "This is just something that is a matter of knowing who to talk to and—"
"There you are," Alex said coming in the door
Walker swiveled around in the barstool and smiled at her
"Hey gorgeous," Walker said kissing her on the cheek
"I have been trying to reach you for over and hour," She said
"Well you found me," he said
"Barnes was able to get a lead on it," she said handing him a piece of paper. "Meet him at this address."
"Thanks Alex," Walker said reaching for his hat, which was sitting on the bar next to the forgotten coffee."
"You know, I’m not your answering service," Alex said
"I know," Walker replied with a grin. "I couldn’t do this to an answering service.
He kissed Alex, taking her by surprise, and then he headed for the door nearly barreling Trent over"Whoa, Walker where’s the fire?" Trent asked
"Sorry, Trent can’t talk now", Walker said. "Christina".
Walker smiled and tipped his hat to Christina and darted out the door, Trivette followed grinning at Trent
"I guess he’s working," Trent said
"Isn’t he always?" Alex asked
"Hey, Alex", Trent said giving her a hug
"Hello Christina," Alex said surprised at seeing her out so soon
"Hi Alex," Christina said
"I talked her in to dinner," Trent said putting his arm around Christina
"Good," Alex said
"Christina, I’d like you to meet CD Parker. Owner of this fine establishment".
"CD, you have a nice place here," she said
"Well, thank you ma’am," CD said.
"Alex, I want you to know that I appreciate everything you said last night," Christina told her with a smile
"You’re welcome. And you can call me anytime, Alex said hugging her
"I think I will. Thank you."
Trent was happy to see her reach out to Alex
"Come-on, " CD said. " I’ll take you to your table."
He walked them over to most private table he had
"It’s much quieter over here," "He said
"Thank you," Christina said
Trent pulled the chair out for her and CD sauntered back over to the bar
"Alex, that girl is beautiful," CD said. "Just beautiful"." She sure is," Alex said
"It’s good to see Trent out on a date. One he can enjoy anyway."
"And what is that supposed to mean?" Alex asked
"Alex, honey, Carlos has set that poor boy up on more blind dates than I can count and they are always a disaster."
"Well, I have a feeling that Christina is just what he needs", Alex said. Then she hugged CD and headed out
"That was a good thing, reaching out to Alex," Trent said
"Well, I want to start my life over and I think getting help from Alex is a good start."
""Yes. It sure is."
"And from you", she said sweetly
"I will be here for you-always," he said. "Now. Order anything you want."
When she picked up the menu, he suddenly remembered something
"Oh, but not the chili", he said
"I like chili", she said
"Trust me on this one", he said
"I do trust you," she said in a soft sweet voice that made Trent take in a breath
"What can I get you Trent?"
They looked up at the waitress
"Christina?"
"How about a steak, medium well, with a baked potato?"
Trent looked at her as if she had ordered everything on the menu
"What? I’m hungry," she said
He broke out laughing
"And you Trent?"
"Lets see, how about steak, well done with one of them potatoes?" he said grinning
Christina laughed; it was the sweetest sound he had ever heard
"And to drink?"
"I’ll have a draft? Christina?"
She could not answer. When Trent ordered the beer, it surprised her
"Christina, are you all right?" Trent asked
"Water, please", was all she said softly
Trent grew concerned
"Christina, look at me", Trent said softly
She could not. She was too scared. Her lips began to tremble. And her eyes were misting
"Talk to me sweetheart", he pleaded
He placed a hand under her chin so she would look up at him
"What is it?" He asked tenderly. "Did I do something to upset you?"
The waitress came with their drinks and Christina took in a breath and turned her head away from him
"Thank you," Trent said
She just glanced at his beer as if she expected something to happen. Then it all made sense to him
"Christina, I am so sorry," he said. " Keith drank didn’t he?"
Trent signaled for the waitress
"Can you take this back?" He asked
"Sure. You want something else?"
"Just some coffee. Thank you."
She walked off leaving them alone again
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked
"Nothing much to tell," she said wiping away some tears. " He drank all of the time. I can’t remember a time when he was ever sober."
"I am so sorry that you had to go through that," Trent said. "And I won’t drink."
"You don’t have to do that," she said feeling badly
"I only drink on special occasions anyway," he said
"And you consider this as special occasion?" She asked
"Yes, I do."
She shifted her gaze to his and was mesmerized by the tenderness she saw mirrored in the depths of his eyes
"I mean, It’s not often that I get to take such a pretty lady out to dinner," he said
"Pretty?" She asked surprised
"Very pretty," he said
For the remainder of the evening the just talked and enjoyed one another’s company. Christina was everything a man could want in women. Smart. Beautiful. Kind. And she was looking at him with such invitation in her eyes
"Would you like to get out of here?" He asked
"Yes"
"Great".
He picked up the bill, walked around, and pulled out the chair for her. It was such as sweet gesture. One she knew she could get used to
"CD, dinner was delicious," Trent said handing him the tab along with a fifty-dollar bill.
"Of course it was, CD barked. " And you better bring this pretty gal back here soon."
"I will," Trent assured him. Give the change to Cindy", he said when CD tried to give it to him
"It was nice meeting you Mr. Parker," Christina said
"You too," CD said smiling
When they got outside the door Trent found two men lingering around his vette
"Trent.
"I see them," he said pushing her protectively behind him
"Well, you must be the owner?" The thief said leering at Christina
"Yes and I would appreciate you moving away from it," Trent said
The man pulled out a gun paralyzing Christina
"Hand over the keys," the gunman said. "And her".
Christina cringed behind Trent
"You can have the keys," Trent said. "Nothing more".
"I am the one holding the gun, pal", The man threatened
Trent slowly started backing up toward the entrance of CDs
"It’s all right Christina," Trent said. "Stay calm and slowly move back to the door."
"No, I don’t want to leave you", she said nervously
"I’ll be fine," he said. "Now go."
As soon as Christina was safely in the door Trent burst in to action. With blinding speed he threw himself to the side and with the toe if his shoe kicked up a fist sized rock from the ground and sent it flying toward the gunman
The sight of Trent fighting froze Christina. He was incredible. She had never seen anyone move so fast
"What is it Christina?" CD asked from behind her
"Trent is fighting two men. They tried to steal his car," she said frantically
"All right put your head down CD said and went to call 911. " Stay calm everyone. Trent is handling it."
Trent had no trouble sizing these
men up as he took action. One of them came at him with a large knife and
he raised his hand and clutched him by the wrist and twisted his arm out,
causing him to drop the knife. Then he flipped him over and landed him
into another.
"CD?" She yelled over her shoulder at him
""Easy honey," CD said
"There has to be at least six men out there," she cried
"Is that all?" CD asked not the least bit worried for Trent
Two men went flying through the air by Trent’s flashing blows.
"Oh my god", Christina cried
Trent then let his right leg go out into a spinning back kick that packed an incredible amount of power landing squarely on the gunman’s jaw, breaking it instantly dropping him like a stone
Two uniformed police officers arrive on the scene. They both knew him
"What happened Trent?"
"They tried to take the vette," Trent said
"Boy are you guys stupid," the officer said hauling them on their feet and placing them in the patrol car
Christina ran out and straight in to Trent’s arms
"Are you all right?" He asked
"I am now," she said
"It’s over now," he said holding until she had relaxed. "Let’s go."
He walked her over to the vette and opened the door for her
"Is she all right?" CD asked Trent
"Yeah. Just shaken up".
"Those boys must be plum loco to try and steal you car."
"Just your every day thieves CD," Trent said. "I’ll see you later."
Trent steered the vette out on to the main highway
"Are you all right? He asked
"Yes. That was just a little scary," she said
"I am sorry," he said
"You must be use to it, with the work you do," she said
""Yes. But I don’t like to fight", he said
""You have some amazing abilities Trent," she said. " I have never seen someone move so fast. And you saved my life."
Trent smiled at her complement. Then an idea came to him
"Would you like to go for a walk?" He asked her
"Yes, I’d really like that Trent", she said, smiling at him. She could sense his concern and wanted to reassure him that she was okay
Trent smiled back. He wanted to take
her on this walk so he could tell her that he was in love with her. He
prayed that he did not upset her because he would rather die than to cause
her even one second of pain
